Coal-fired power plant is a power plant that is widely used in Indonesia with a percentage of 57.22% of a total of 60 GW of installed power based on ministry of ESDM data, it is because PLTU has low production cost around Rp 500- Rp 600 per KWh, when compared to other fuel-generating plants such as gas around Rp 900 per KWh and BBM around Rp 1,800 per KWh according to the ministry of ESDM. The low production cost is due to the cheaper price of coal than other fossil fuels. In power generation, the largest cost to operate a unit is the fuel cost of about 80% to 88% of the total operating cost. If fuel-specific consumption increases, the cost of producing electrical energy becomes high. The specific fuel consumption values are influenced by several factors, one of which is the quality of coal used in the generation process, one of which effects the value of coal quality is the calorific value contained in coal. The value of the calorie content used by the boiler to produce steam. This study aims to determine the effect of coal quality on the value of gross plant heat rate (GPHR), net plant heat rate (NPHR), specific fuel consumption (SFC) and electricity production costs in power generation units. In this research, GPHR, NPHR, SFC and generating value of coal quality and different load are obtained so that the lowest SFC value is 0,5418 for the use of 4431 calorie coal at 320 MW load, the lowest value of GPHR and NPHR is 2401 and 2523 when using 4431 calorie coal at 320 MW load, and the highest thermal efficiency value 35.8% when usage of 4431 calorie coal at 320 MW load. While the lowest cost of generation at the load of 320 MW with the use of coal with a calorific value of 4232 with generation power costs of Rp.373.67 / KWh. From this study it is known that the higher the calorific value in coal with the load approaching fullload, the SFC, GPHR, NPHR value will decrease and the efficiency increases, while at the generation power cost even though SFC decreases with the increasing of calorie value but does not make the generation power cost decrease, this is because the price of coal increasingly expensive with the higher calories.
